Toy Story 5 Draws 20M Views in Five Days on Disney+, a Top-10 Premiere
Pixar's billion-dollar juggernaut has officially conquered streaming too. Toy Story 5 drew 20 million views within its first five days on Disney+, according to reports, ranking as the No. 1 film on the service during its premiere week and landing within the top 10 theatrical film premieres on Disney+ to date. It's a staggering debut that suggests audiences' appetite for Woody, Buzz, and the gang is nowhere near exhausted.
Beating the Big Ones
The numbers look even more impressive in context. Toy Story 5 outpaced two of Disney's other 2026 heavyweights: Lilo & Stitch, which managed 14.3 million views in its first five days, and The Devil Wears Prada 2, which drew 15.2 million views across Disney+ and Hulu back in August. For a franchise now five films deep, outpacing the shiny new remakes and sequels is a genuine flex.
The streaming debut comes after a meticulously planned window. The film arrived on Disney+ on September 23, a full 96 days after its June 19 theatrical opening, and it was available for digital purchase starting August 18. That theatrical run, of course, was historic: Toy Story 5 opened to $159.7 million domestic and $310.2 million global — the largest openings in both franchise and Pixar history — and has since grossed roughly $1.14 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Toy Story film ever and the third-biggest release of 2026.
The Billion-Dollar Club
That $1.14 billion haul marked the sixth time Pixar has crossed the billion-dollar mark at the global box office, joining Toy Story 3 in 2010 and Toy Story 4 in 2019. And the franchise's streaming dominance runs deeper than one film: according to reports, Toy Story is the most-watched movie franchise on Disney+, with over 2 billion hours streamed globally, while Toy Story 5 alone generated 168 million hours of viewing since its trailer first appeared.
Directed by Andrew Stanton, with Kenna Harris as co-director, the film brings back Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack, alongside Conan O'Brien and Greta Lee. The big swing this time is Lilypad, a tablet with disruptive ideas about play for kid Bonnie — a cleverly modern villain-for-the-times that gives the film its thematic engine.
Fortnite and Beyond
Disney and Pixar aren't done milking the moment. The studios launched a Fortnite activation, "Toy Story 5: The Great Toy Rescue," running September 22 through October 5, bringing the toys to gaming's biggest stage. Between the box-office records, the streaming numbers, and the cross-platform push, Toy Story 5 isn't just a hit — it's a case study in how to run a franchise in 2026.
