Daredevil: Born Again to End After Season 3 as Marvel Parts Ways With Showrunner

Hell's Kitchen is getting one last fight. Deadline reported on September 21 that Daredevil: Born Again will end with its upcoming third season on Disney+, with sources saying calls went out to the cast confirming the final season. Production on Season 3 has wrapped, and the eight-episode final season is in post-production ahead of a 2027 premiere.

A Showrunner Exits

Showrunner Dario Scardapane is exiting — Marvel did not renew his contract during Season 3's post-production, and it is unclear who will oversee the final touches. It is a notable changing of the guard for a series that has already survived one major creative overhaul: the revival went through a major creative reset after the 2023 Hollywood strikes, when Scardapane replaced original head writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord.

The Viewership Question

A key factor in the decision may be the numbers. Season 1 drew 7.5 million viewers worldwide in its first five days — the best series premiere of 2025 on Disney+. But US viewership dropped by roughly 50% in Season 2, according to Luminate data. That is a steep falloff for Marvel's flagship street-level hero, and it likely made the math on a fourth season difficult.

Where the Story Stands

Season 2 brought back Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and ended with Matt imprisoned, his secret identity exposed, and Kingpin stripped of his mayoral office. Season 3 will unite the street-level Defenders: Ritter, Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Iron Fist) reunite alongside Matt Murdock to confront Fisk. The series stars Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Wilson Bethel.

The original Daredevil ran three seasons on Netflix from 2015 to 2018 before the Disney+ revival arrived in 2025. If the revival ends with Season 3, both versions of the Man Without Fear will have run exactly three seasons — a symmetry that feels almost intentional. For fans, the consolation is real: one more season, the Defenders assembled, and Kingpin to bring down. It is not the ending anyone asked for, but it might be the ending the story needs.

The End of an Era — Twice

There is a strange poetry to how this is playing out. The original Daredevil ran three seasons on Netflix from 2015 to 2018; the Disney+ revival, after its own creative rebirth following the 2023 Hollywood strikes, will also run three seasons. Both versions of the Man Without Fear get the same number of chapters — a symmetry that feels almost intentional, even if the road here was anything but. For a character who has survived cancellation, revival, and a full creative reset, one final season with the Defenders assembled against Kingpin is a worthy last stand. Hell's Kitchen deserved nothing less.
